Public Art Weaving Workshop with Patrizia Ferreira

Join fiber artist Patrizia Ferreira at Artspace to help create a public art installation from recycled plastic bags!

Help create a public artwork by weaving reused materials!

Join SEEK Raleigh artist Patrizia Ferreira at Artspace to co-create a public artwork out of reused plastic bags.

The final artwork, "Air Chrysalis" will hang at Walnut Creek Wetland Park in Spring 2026. Made entirely of plastic bags, many found at one of Walnut Creek Preserve regular clean ups, "Air Chrysalis" is an homage to the handmade, to the slow work of artisanal communities across the world, to the power of collaborations and the infinite diversity of natural life.

"Air Chrysalis" is supported by SEEK Raleigh— a program of Raleigh Arts.

About the instructor

Patrizia Ferreira's work laboriously incorporates the debris of her surroundings namely, textiles and plastic, to create poetic pieces that speak of our society of over consumption, and the state of our environment. By giving life to otherwise inanimate materials, making something beautiful out of the discarded she invites the viewer to reflect upon the repercussions our actions cause on our planet. A native of Uruguay, being an immigrant and being a woman instruments in great part her work. Pieces appear fragmented, torn, frayed, depicting the obvious, inevitable passage of time. A piece made of many disconnected parts. An analogy for how she feels. Made of many broken, fragmented pieces – yet, strongly rooted, undeniably human.

Patrizia received a bachelor’s degree in textile design from the Institute of Industrial Design in Montevideo, Uruguay and a Master of Science degree in textile design for prints from Philadelphia University (currently Thomas Jefferson University). She is the recipient of the 2024 Emerging Artist in Residence at Artspace, Raleigh, NC. She is an artist and educator living in Raleigh, NC.

Join Arturo Correa for a non- traditional painting workshop that’ll expand your conceptual understanding of the artistic process

Join studio artist Arturo Correa for a non- traditional painting workshop that’ll guide you through a journey to connect the world around you, both positive and negative, to the art that you make.

This workshop centers the notion that art is a powerful means of expressing and reflecting on our feelings and values that inform our lives. Arturo will share his own approach to artmaking that uncovers personal insights about yourself and utilize this insight as a means to make conceptually meaningful artwork.

This workshop is ideal for artists who are looking to branch out of their comfort zone and expand on their conceptual understanding of the artistic process. Materials will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own as well.

Hand-build a ceramic plant pot and get a free plant from our partners at Copperline Plant Co. Instructor: Mary Parker

This is a two part workshop that will meet on Thursdays December 4 + 11 (6-9pm both days). Participants will be asked to visit Copperline Plant Co. to claim their free plants!

Build a hand-crafted plant pot that you’ll be proud to gift or cherish for yourself. In partnership with Copperline Plant Co., students will create a 4-5 inch pot by applying basic pottery and glazing techniques and creating a one-of-a-kind ceramic piece. In the spirit of giving, Copperline Plant Co. will include a plant to all participants at no additional cost.

The first session will be focused on forming your clay and creating your pots. Artspace will fire the greenware during the week and have them ready for Session 2, at which point students will glaze their pieces. A final firing in the kiln will be required, and participants will be asked to visit Copperline Plant Co. within a few days to collect their pots along with their plants. This is an entry level class and no prior experience is required.

Instructor: Mary Parker

Join huiyin zhou for an art making workshop that explores the intimate interplay between text and image.

This event was postponed from September 20 to December 6.

Join huiyin zhou for a workshop exploring the intimate interplay between text and image. We will look at examples of different artists’ work that interweaves personal writing with photography, with a focus on queer kinship, diaspora, and memory work. Participants will learn techniques for crafting personal stories through generative prompts and hands-on practice. Participants will leave with pieces of text + image art they create.

Bring 3-6 physical photos you feel connected to, whether from personal archives, family albums, or found objects (copies are encouraged). We will provide other materials for writing, crafting, and collaging. If you require these photos to be printed, feel free to email them to Danny Peña at [email protected] at least 2 days prior to the workshop.
