A bilingual, musical storytelling experience that promotes socio-emotional learning, while teaching Spanish vocabulary through the context of the story. The audience will experience a heartwarming story about a little boy in Bolivia who longs to play music but scarcity and misfortune stand in the way of his dreams. Finally, he overcomes by making his own instruments out of bottles, cans, and other repurposed materials.
This story inspires creativity, resilience, care for the environment, and an appreciation for cultural diversity. In addition, the audience will learn Spanish vocabulary as it is woven into the context of Pepito’s life in Bolivia. Music is played throughout the story and ends with a song demonstrating how Pepito and his siblings make music with bottles, cans, and other repurposed materials.

Artist Background
Luke is a multi-disciplinary artist who didn’t take the normal artistic path. He graduated from NCSU with a BA in Spanish in 2004 and immediately moved to Bolivia where he taught English from grades 1 to 12, as well as university courses. Though he was fascinated by different cultures and foreign languages, teaching English didn’t seem to be the right fit. Eventually, he rediscovered himself as an artist volunteering at a children’s home where he organized art workshops, painted murals, wrote and directed plays, and played and taught music. In 2021, he and his family moved back to his hometown, Raleigh NC, where he has furthered his career as an artist, musician, and storyteller. Luke has released several singles and a recent EP, Pepito & The Trash Cans.
