Based on the story of “Lonesome George,” this 50 minute performance tells the tale of a truly one-of-a-kind tortoise from the Galapagos Islands. Described by The Smithsonian as “an uplifting eco-fable,” this engaging theatrical piece shares and important lesson about man’s impact on the environment. Seventeen rod puppets and shadow puppets delight students on a unique “island” stage with original music, live voices, and fun. Visually engaging for all ages and mentally stimulating — even for upper grades. Within the show, students will learn about what happened to the tortoises of the Galapagos Islands and how many spieces became endangered. The performance is a great launching point for a variety of deeper classroom discussions surrounding ecosystems, island formation, extinction, invasive species, and biodiversity.
