In this presentation we invite you to join us as we journey, through storytelling, performance and hands-on activities, into the heart of Spanish Flamenco, gathering up the “llaves de oro” or “golden keys” of this culturally rich form of music and dance. Students are introduced to the culture, rhythms, and emotions of flamenco, its origins in Southern Spain, and its multicultural influences: Andalusian, Gypsy, North African, Arabic and Judaic, and Latin American. The Artists demonstrate the important elements of flamenco including: castanuelas (castanets), guitarra (guitar), cante (voice), and zapateado (footwork), and share dances and songs spanning a range of emotions from joy to sorrow, anger to exuberance. Audience participation is a vital aspect of the show which ends with a Q and A and four artists (2 dancers, a singer and a guitarist) present this program in colorful, traditional costumes. The material is tailored to be age appropriate for students K-12 and pre-performance curriculum guides are provided to classroom teachers. We hope to join you in your school soon, either in person or virtually.
