Music and Stories

Once Upon A Time... invites us into a rich world of imagination.

Through the traditional arts of story, song, dance and a variety of folk instruments, Jennifer welcomes students into a delightful, shared experience as they sing, hum, clap, chant, imagine and dance along.

Jennifer is offering three different programs:

(K-8) Appalachian Tales and Tunes with fretless banjo, mountain dulcimer, fiddle and folk toys; dancing puppet, handkerchief mouse, gee haw whimmydiddle.
(K-5) Books Alive with banjo, fiddle and dancing puppet.
(3-8) Celtic Tales from Scotland and Ireland with fiddle, pennywhistle and bagpipe.

Jennifer tailors her programs to your needs. Length can be 40 to 50 minutes. Specific books can be added to the program on request. In whatever ways she can support you and your curriculum, she’s all in!

All programs comply with North Carolina Standards.

Artist Background

I grew up in a musical family and began performing at the age of 5. I have been a featured teller at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN as well as a part of the Storytelling Live Series. I have performed at the Kennedy Center, been interviewed on NPR and have told stories, sung songs, played tunes and called dances in schools, libraries, festivals, summer camps, churches, retreat centers and house concerts across the country since 1977.  I currently live in Asheville where I am working with students from preschool to high school. I am happy to answer any questions you may have and look forward to visiting your school!
