New Arts in Communities Program Brings Creativity to Aging and Healing Populations
Raleigh, NC – October 3, 2025
United Arts Wake County is proud to announce the launch of Arts in Communities, a new initiative that delivers engaging arts programming to aging and healing populations. Building on the success of its longstanding Artists in Schools program, United Arts will now bring high-quality arts experiences into senior living facilities, hospitals, and rehabilitation centers to support recovery and nurture well-being. Research shows that engagement in the arts can significantly reduce pain and symptoms of depression while improving overall well-being.
The program is made possible with support from Home Instead, a leading provider of in-home care services for seniors.
“Home Instead is honored to partner with United Arts,” said Rich Zawadzki of Home Instead. “We see in our work every day how creativity and connection can brighten lives. The arts bring joy, reduce loneliness, and inspire hope, and that’s exactly what we want for older adults and those going through the healing process.”
By connecting professional artists with care facilities, Arts in Communities creates opportunities for creative expression, social connection, and healing.
“Just as the arts transform classrooms for students, they can also brighten hospital rooms, senior centers, and rehabilitation spaces,” said Lee Posey Pike, Vice President of Development at United Arts. “Now, the healing energy of the arts will reach seniors and patients across Wake County, turning care spaces into places of creativity and connection.”
