Lit for the Culture

Lit for the Culture™ is a multidisciplinary literary and cultural experience celebrating Black women’s voices through storytelling, performance, and community engagement. Taking place on March 29 in Raleigh, the event weaves together literature, spoken word, live music, and facilitated dialogue to create an immersive arts-centered experience rooted in connection and collective reflection.
The program features author showcases, a moderated panel discussion, and live artistic moments, alongside a special appearance by Dr. Sandra Johnson, the first African American woman in the United States to earn a PhD in Chemical Engineering. Her participation anchors the event’s educational and historical significance during Women’s History Month.
Designed as both a celebration and a convening space, Lit for the Culture™ uplifts underrepresented voices, supports local creatives and small businesses, and fosters intergenerational learning, cultural pride, and meaningful community engagement through the arts.
