Drawing BIPOC Features w/ Marion Tisdale (ages 16+)

This is a two-part workshop that will meet on Saturday October 4th + 11th (1-4pm).
This workshop series focuses on the techniques and approaches needed to accurately render diverse facial features and hair textures. Participants will learn how to illustrate dark skin tones, monolids, broad noses, and a variety of hair types including kinky, coily, curly, braids, and locs. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, the class will explore shading, proportion, and texture techniques that bring out the beauty and individuality of every subject. Open to ages 16+ and all skill levels—whether you’re new to portraiture or looking to expand your artistic range.

About the artist
MARION TISDALE – Artspace HBCU Artist in Resident Marion Tisdale IV is an artist who creates work for the forgotten. A resident of Raleigh for nearly twenty years, Tisdale has been making art since childhood. He earned his BA in Art from Morehouse College while interning at 311 Gallery. Afterward, he began exhibiting throughout the Triangle and completed a residency at Lump Gallery. His current work explores themes of gentrification, queer identity, and body horror, drawing inspiration from ideas surrounding respectability, and queerness as monstrosity.
