In this workshop, students will explore the fundamentals of DJing as a musical and technology-based art form. The session begins with an introduction to DJ equipment and how sound is created, controlled, and shared with an audience. Students will learn how rhythm, tempo, and song selection influence mood and energy. Through live demonstrations, students will observe how songs are blended and how DJs make real-time decisions based on audience response. Selected students may participate in guided activities that demonstrate timing, transitions, and basic mixing concepts.

Students will also examine how DJs use creativity, cultural awareness, and critical listening to connect with diverse audiences. The program highlights how music reflects different cultures and communities, while introducing real-world applications such as event production, entrepreneurship, and technology careers.

Content and examples can be adapted to align with school curriculum themes, grade levels, and student interests. Adjustments can be made to support different learning styles, including simplified concepts for younger students or more advanced discussion for older students. One teaching & assistant artist is typically present, with all equipment provided.

The workshop is designed for a typical classroom size of approximately 25–30 students. This will maximize engagement and participation. students may work as a whole group or be divided into smaller learning groups depending on classroom size and instructional goals. Multiple activity stations can be incorporated within the classroom setting or multipurpose room or media center, allowing students to rotate through and be fully engaged.

Artist Background

Randal, performing as DJ 360 Elite, is a professional DJ and event production artist with decades of experience creating music-driven experiences for diverse audiences. His work spans weddings, corporate events, cultural celebrations, and community programs, where he integrates music, technology, and audience engagement.

In addition to his performance career, he has extensive experience working with students in educational settings, including Career Day presentations for elementary and middle schools and youth development programs such as Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s Delta Academy. Since 2009, he has also provided private DJ instruction and mentorship, helping students develop technical skills, creativity, and confidence. His teaching approach combines storytelling, hands-on demonstration, and real-world application, allowing students to understand both the artistic and practical aspects of DJing. Drawing on a background that includes formal education in business and entrepreneurship, he connects music to technology, cultural awareness, and career readiness.
