A taste of the familiar and a touch of the new. It’s Tangle Of Tales, the imaginative creation of Grey Seal Puppets. Three favorite folk tales from around the world come to life: “The Frog Prince” from Germany teaches the importance of a promise, “Three Billy Goats Gruff” from Scandinavia warns us against gluttony, and “The Three Little Pigs” from England is all about doing the job right. Each story is told in a different style using a variety of puppets including hand and rod control. Along with these familiar tales of childhood, the Grey Seal Puppets offer a whole menagerie of zany characters. A skinny ant dances a lively jig; “block heads” learn how to get around; and the zaniest creatures of all, the “Wobblies,” open the forty-five minute show with an extraordinary ballet choreographed to Kablevsky’s “The Comedian’s Suite.

Their repertoire includes a variety of productions from familiar fairy tales (The Emperor’s New Clothes) to original stories (Bathtub Pirates). The company’s thirty-year history includes such honors as three Citations of Excellence from UNIMA-USA (International puppetry organization), the President’s Award from the Puppeteers of America, and the Award for Leadership in Theatre from the NC Theatre Conference.
