Stories on Stage

In InterAct Story Theatre’s Stories on Stage series, one performer weaves together story, drama, movement and song to bring multicultural folk tales to life. Choose from any of the following: Mama-San Stories: Silly Smarts (grades preK-5) InterAct’s Artistic Director Ali Oliver-Krueger weaves stories from her Japanese-American childhood with traditional Japanese mukashibanashi (Long-Ago Stories) in this funny east-meets-west program about using your smarts and the difference between “smart” and “wise”. Raise the Red Lantern!: A Chinese New Year’s Celebration (grades K-5) Xin Nian Kuai Le! A storytelling celebration of Chinese New Year. The Magic Tree Named Awongalema (Grades PreK-5): This heartwarming adaptation of a Zambian folk tale follows the quest of four animals who try to save the grasslands from famine and drought. All they have to do is remember the name of one magic tree…if only anyone could remember it!
