Meet the Composer

Meet the Composer

How do composers come up with their ideas for new pieces? What elements do they work with and how do they use them to craft a brand new composition? Your class, with guidance from composer Bo Newsome, will be the composer in this fun and interactive program. Mr. Newsome will use the elements of telling a story as the basis for the form of their musical composition. Mallarme musicians will be on hand to demonstrate their instruments and to help perform your class’s unique piece! This program can be presented as a one-time workshop or as a three-day residency where the composer works with the students in advance of Mallarme musicians coming into the class. Regardless of which option you choose the players will demonstrate their instruments, present several short examples of chamber music and perform the student’s completed composition. The play-through can be recorded and made available to the students in an online forum.
