Discover the magic where science meets art!
The Sublimation Art Experience is a 4-day, hands-on residency that blends visual arts with real-world science. Students explore the phase change of sublimation while designing and creating custom artwork on items like t-shirts, mugs, or pencil pouches. Aligned with NC science and art standards, this engaging program sparks creativity, teaches practical skills, and brings learning to life—one colorful print at a time!
Day 1: Introduction to Sublimation & Phase Changes
Focus: Understanding the science of sublimation and beginning design planning.
- Science Standard (PS.5.1): Understand how heating and cooling affect the states of matter.
- Visual Arts Standard (VA.CR.1): Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work.
Day 2: Design Development & Materials Preparation
Focus: Creating final designs and learning to work with sublimation materials safely.
- Science Standard (PS.5.1): Observe and describe changes in physical properties of materials during heating and cooling.
- Visual Arts Standard (VA.CR.2): Organize and develop artistic ideas and work.
Day 3: The Sublimation Process in Action
Focus: Applying heat and observing physical phase change during sublimation transfer.
- Science Standard (PS.5.1): Identify changes in states of matter due to the addition or removal of heat energy.
- Visual Arts Standard (VA.CR.3): Refine and complete artistic work.
Day 4: Art Meets Science & Presentation Prep
Focus: Connecting art and science through reflection and written artist statements.
- Science Standard (PS.5.1): Use scientific vocabulary to describe observable changes in matter.
- Visual Arts Standard (VA.PR.1): Select, analyze, and interpret artistic work for presentation.
Day 5: Showcase & Reflection (Optional Extra Fee)
Focus: Presenting completed work and discussing the creative and scientific process.
- Science Standard (PS.5.1): Communicate understanding of phase changes through student-led explanation.
- Visual Arts Standard (VA.CN.1): Relate artistic ideas and works with societal, cultural, and historical context to deepen understanding.
Artist Background
GG’s Creation Station was founded by Reenada (Ginna) Perez, an experienced educator, teaching artist, and creative entrepreneur with a passion for hands-on learning. With a background in education, child development, and arts integration, Ginna has spent over a decade designing engaging experiences that combine creativity with academic content.
After years of working with children and families in both formal and informal learning environments—including child development centers, public schools, and community programs—Ginna launched GG’s Creation Station as a way to merge her love for crafting with her dedication to student engagement.
The Sublimation Art Residency was developed as a cross-disciplinary program that blends visual art with science (STEAM), allowing students to explore physical changes in matter while creating meaningful, personalized artwork. Each lesson is standards-aligned, developmentally appropriate, and designed to foster confidence, curiosity, and creativity.
GG’s Creation Station continues to grow as a hub for custom gifts, creative workshops, and school residencies—all centered around the belief that every child is an artist, and every learning experience should leave a lasting impression.
