Space Requirements

Performance area must at least 15’x15′ with an 8′ minimum ceiling clearance. Indoor performances only. For audiences in excess of 100 persons, a raised stage is recommended. Best performed in a space that can be dark as shadow puppets are used. Recommended maximum audience size is 350.

Tech Requirements

90 minute set up; 60 minute strike. Electrical outlets near performance space. We provide our own professional sound system with wireless mics and supplemental lighting system. Pipe and drape is available upon request.

Galapagos George

Meet George—a giant Galápagos tortoise with a big story to tell! Follow his journey among blue-footed birds, sea lions, and other island creatures in this charming true tale inspired by the last tortoise found on Pinta Island.

This “uplifting eco-fable,” as praised by The Smithsonian, that gently explores caring for our planet. Seventeen rod-puppets and shadow-puppets delight students on a unique “island” stage with original music, live voices, and fun. Winner of the UNIMA Citation of Excellence, the highest American honor in puppetry arts, this performance invites the audience to fall in love with George—and the world he calls home.

Celebrating over 25 years of touring! Barefoot Puppet Theatre’s award-winning performances have thrilled audiences throughout the country and internationally since 1997. Educators give enthusiastic reviews of their programs and invite them back again and again to the delight of their students. Their touring programs feature imaginative scripts, innovative staging, original music, beautifully crafted puppets, and fun! Programs augment curriculum in many subject areas, and a learning guide accompanies each show. Customized residency programs and workshops are able to blend science, literature, and/or writing with theatre for a complete hands-on learning experience. The puppeteers are always thrilled to share more about puppetry during post-show discussions and regularly give backstage tours to groups.
