The Hindi phrase “Hum Sub” means “All of us.” For over 15 years, United Arts has proudly supported the aptly named Hum Sub, a non-profit Indian-American cultural organization. In 2001, Hum Sub was founded by a group of Indian Americans living in the Triangle to address the growing need to share India’s diverse and colorful heritage with the local community. Throughout the year, their family-oriented cultural events are geared towards inclusivity and diversity awareness while helping to build a stronger foundation for young people.
A key focus area for Hum Sub in recent years has been youth leadership in order to engage growing minds and promote Indian culture and heritage. This year, they are evolving their Youth Ambassador Program into a two-year internship open to 9th and 10th graders. (The photo above is of the 2022-2023 Youth Ambassadors)
Hum Sub’s Youth Achievement Award application is now open through September 10, 2023 to middle and high school students. Winners are awarded $1,500 each and have the chance to be a part of the Youth Ambassador Program and gain valuable leadership experience. Applications from eligible youth of all ethnicities and backgrounds are welcome.
Many thanks to Hum Sub for all they do in Wake County! See photos and videos of past events, and save the date for Hum Sub Diwali on October 14, 2023.
