SUMMARY:Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy. Really
DESCRIPTION:The patriarchy bites. \nBouncing between horror and humor\, Kate Hamill’s adaptation of Bram Stoker’s seminal novel is a thrilling play that questions who the true monsters are. Fierce\, feminist\, and frightening\, Dracula is a revenge fantasy worth sinking your teeth into! \nTerrifying and riotous\, this imaginative\, gender-bending feminist revenge fantasy is like no Dracula you’ve ever experienced. This fresh take on the classic Victorian tale delves into the nature of modern predators. Hamill’s signature style and postmodern flair have us battling complicit\, complacent\, and controlling villains to drive a stake through the heart of toxic masculinity.

SUMMARY:CABARET
DESCRIPTION:THE JUSTICE THEATER PROJECT FINISHES ITS 2023-24 SEASON “EVERYTHING\, EVERYWHERE\, EVERYONE Issues Of Our Time” WITH THE LONG-AWAITED FINALE\, CABARET\,” Directed by Nancy Rich and Music Directed by Katherine Anderson June 7-23\, 2024.\n“Life is a cabaret\, ol’ chum\, so come to the Cabaret.” In a nightclub set in 1929-1930 Berlin\, during the twilight of the Jazz Age\, as the Nazis rose to power\, the musical focuses on the hedonistic nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub that revolves around American Writer Clifford Bfradshaw’s relations with English cabaret performer Sally Bolles. Drawing to a close\, a garish Master of Ceremonies welcomes the audience and assures them they will forget all their troubles at the Cabaret. Employing the Emcee’s bawdy songs as wry commentary\, this musical classic explores the dark\, heady\, and tumultuous life of Sally Bowles and Berlin’s natives and expatriates as Germany slowly yields to the emerging Third Reich. The musical numbers performed by the Emcee revel in the decadence that serves s a metaphor for the political decline of the Weimar Republic and the rise of the Nazi Party\, which in a few years\, would be closing down establishments like the Kit Kat Klub and burning “Un-German books in the streets of Berlin.\nAddressing the issues in the characters’ lives in the late 1920s parallels what we deal with today – racial profiling\, inclusiveness\, politics\, survival\, sorrow\, and fear because of others in our own lives. CABARET plays with culturally and politically reactionary forces and often follows episodes of significant social change\, especially in a progressive direction. Spawning numerous reimagined Broadway revivals\, CABARET is among the American theatre’s most enduring musicals. Audience – PG-13.\nContent warning:\nCabaret contains depictions of the rise of Nazi Germany in the 1930s through costumes\, scenery\, hand gestures and choreography\, racial caricatures\, and language. It explores mature themes\, including anti-Semitism\, racism\, sexual content\, abortion\, alcohol\, and physical violence. There are depictions of smoking\, but no real or fabricated smoke. Please note that this show features a live band\, sudden sound effects\, and brief sequences of flashing lights.

SUMMARY:BLANK
DESCRIPTION:JOIN US FOR THE PREMIERE OF BLANK BY NASSIM SOLEIMANPOUR AS THE SHOW OPENS THURSDAY\, MAY 16\, 2024\, IN THREE DIFFERENT VENUES AROUND THE TRIANGLE ON MAY 16-19 AND MAY 24-25. \nKnown for plays that invert theatrical conventions\, Soleimanpour takes it to new extremes with BLANK. Each night\, Nassim’s script\, which is full of blanks\, is to be completed by a new performer before a live audience. The play becomes a story machine to share the life story of the playwright\, the performer\, and a random audience member. In a joint effort between the audience and the performer\, the script’s gaps are filled in to reveal a story that celebrates the human imagination. As formally inventive as it is engaging\, BLANK reverses the typical theatre experience: A script riddled with blanks leaves the audience in charge of how the story will unfold. The concept might be simple\, but the result is nothing short of empowering as a random audience member sees their future determined by the imagination of others.\n\nThis piece invites critical reflection on how our human identity constructs the stories we tell. Simultaneously\, it celebrates theatre’s communal and elusive nature as audience members shout\, laugh\, gasp and collaborate to write the evening’s story\, which is irrevocably theirs and will never be told in the same way ever again—a heart-warming tour de force.
