DESCRIPTION:Enjoy an afternoon of late Classical symphonic works composed in Paris and the North American premiere of Sergii Leontiev’s Little Bachiana\, written for Baroque Orchestra. \nSunday\, March 15th\, 4 PM\nHayes Barton United Methodist Church\n2209 Fairview Rd\, Raleigh\, NC \nThe musical scene in Paris was unlike anywhere else in Europe. The draw of talent to the Paris Conservatory also fostered musical experimentation\, exploration\, and a stretching of musical idioms. Haydn wrote his Symphony No. 87 only 10 years apart from Reicha’s first Symphony in E-flat\, but they are tonally so very different. \nWinners of the third annual High School Baroque Artist Residency Competition will also perform with the Raleigh Camerata on Haydn’s Symphony No. 87 in A major. Hear the delightful sounds of classical flutes\, oboes\, bassoons\, and horns with a full string orchestra.

DESCRIPTION:Faculty and students of the North Carolina Chamber Music Institute invite the public to join a celebration of the birthday of Martin Luther King\, Jr. when they perform music of black composers at a free concert. The concert will be held Monday\, January 20\, at 7:30 pm at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church\, 2209 Fairview Rd\, Raleigh\, NC 27608. \nDr. Timothy Holley\, cellist and associate professor of music at NC Central University\, is curating the program which will include works by composers Timmothy Baker\, Jessie Montgomery\, Leslie Adams\, and more! The concert will also feature NC native composer and singer James Dargan\, performing songs based on poems by Langston Hughes. \nImmediately prior to the concert (6:00pm)\, NCCMI will present\, “Conversation with the Composer” with Mr. Dargan! DESCRIPTION:As the Cyndi Lauper song proclaims\, “True colors are beautiful\, like a rainbow.” In this program the 40-voice chamber choir uses the concept of color in musical pieces like “My Luve’s Like a Red\, Red Rose”\, “Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair” or ”Bein’ Green” as a prism for viewing our natural world and the humanity that comprises it.  Through a rainbow of choral colors we celebrate our differences and our similarities.
