Cultural Arts Representative
Cultural Arts Representatives are partners we rely on to coordinate arts programming for their schools and serve as the primary liaison between the school and an artist. See more information about becoming involved as a cultural arts representative.
Grant Panelist
The primary responsibility of a United Arts Council grant panelist is to carefully review and evaluate each grant application within a specific funding category. Panelists are volunteer artists, arts professionals, and community members from a variety of disciplines and nonprofit/business expertise who reflect the diversity of the region. Each panel is chaired by a United Arts board member and facilitated by United Arts staff.
Responsibilities of a grant panelist are to:
- Be familiar with United Arts’ guidelines and criteria for funding
- Review 9 to 20 applications (dependent on grant category)
- Declare conflicts of interest by disclosing existing relationship with applicant(s)
- Attend panel meeting in its entirety
- Participate in open panel discussion during panel meeting
- Develop consensus of strengths and weaknesses for each application
- Provide final score for each application based on published evaluation criteria
Time commitment required:
- Approximately one hour to become familiar with guidelines. Training session will be available.
- Approximately one hour to review each application (number of applications dependent on grant category)
- One-two afternoons/early evenings (dependent on grant category) for panel meeting
Serving on a United Arts grant panel affords participants the opportunity to:
- Learn about the numerous arts programs available to Wake County residents
- Serve and have an impact on the local arts community
- Help the United Arts Council by ensuring objectivity in its granting process
- Observe how public and private funds are distributed to support arts programming
