[Raleigh, NC]—The United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County and the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce have named recipients of their annual Business Support of the Arts Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to the arts in our area by businesses, organizations and individuals.
Awards are given in large business, small business, arts education and individual/foundation categories. The awards were presented at the 8th Annual State of Arts and Culture in Wake County at the NC Museum of Art and are, as follows:
Large Business: Red Hat
Red Hat has been a key sponsor of SPARKcon, the Triangle's creativity festival in Downtown Raleigh. In 2016, Red Hat expanded their support of the arts through the Visual Art Exchange by creating a mini-documentary about the open-source nature of SPARKcon and by sponsoring THE LAB, a new gallery in the Visual Arts Exchange’s downtown location.
Small Business: Synergy Spa & Aesthetics
Synergy Spa sponsors The North Carolina Theatre, Carolina Ballet, Theatre Raleigh, among others. Additionally, Synergy provides donations to school theatre organizations, as well as dance companies.
Arts Education: Hugh Partridge
Hugh is founding artistic director of the Philharmonic Association and conductor of the Triangle Youth Philharmonic. For more than 40 years, Hugh has demonstrated extraordinary support of the arts and influenced the musical life of North Carolina through his leadership as a performer, music educator, collaborator, and conductor.
Individual/ Foundation: Karen Wells
For almost four decades, Karen has dedicated her life to the arts in North Carolina, leaving an indelible mark upon this state and the lives of its citizens. During 17 years of her leadership, Arts North Carolina grew to be one of the most successful and respected statewide arts advocacy organization in the country.
Special Friend of the Council: Hubert Adams
Hubert has installed visual art exhibits at WakeMed Hospital for 19 years. Through this service for United Arts and WakeMed, he positively impacts the 30,000 people who walk through the corridor each month at WakeMed and who have the opportunity to enjoy the art.
Special Friend of the Council: Donna and Peter Heffring
Donna and Peter have been longtime supporters of United Arts as donors and hosts of the Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? event. Donna has shared her database expertise during many hours volunteering in our office.
