Thanks to the wonderful volunteers, board members, artists and school representatives who made this year’s Cultural Arts Booking Fair a huge success! On Saturday, August 13, approximately 500 artists and community members attended the annual event that brings together artists and representatives from schools (faculty, administration, PTA) who work together as part of United Arts' Artists in Schools program. Eighty-two artists who are currently represented in the Artist Directory set up booths in a trade-show format during the day-long event held at Wakefield High School.
About half of the artists also presented brief showcases of their programs throughout the day–enjoyable for the children as well as the adults in attendance. The event was open to the public; organizations, communities, venues, parks, businesses and children all participated. With so many groups and individuals coming together—some new to the event and some who have attended for many years—it’s hard not to be excited about the passion for the arts and strong commitment to the children of Wake County previewed at this memorable event. Even better, many school representatives walk away with teaching artists (writers, performing artists and visual artists) scheduled for the coming school year–a great way to begin an art-filled year!
