SUMMARY:Paint the Parks: Robertson Millpond Preserve
DESCRIPTION:Artists are invited to come out to Robertson Millpond Preserve to participate in the Paint the Parks: En Plein Air Celebration in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Wake County’s Park\, Recreation and Open Space system! Artists can paint anywhere that is not off-trail from park opening to 30 minutes before closing\, creating a piece that celebrates its unique features and beauty. The maximum canvas size for each painting is 16” width x 20” height\, but smaller sizes are also welcome. Each artist may submit one painting to the traveling art exhibition* and must drop off their artwork at Beech Bluff County Park by June 15th to be considered. The traveling exhibition will move to different Wake County Parks from July to December. Please note that artists must bring and use their own supplies and set up in a location that does not block access to any facilities (e.g. kayak launch\, ADA accessible dock\, trailheads). \n*Depending on the quantity of artwork submitted\, the artwork may be subject to a juried review to select which pieces will be included in the traveling art exhibition. Artists will be responsible for framing their work.

SUMMARY:Women's Only Handbuilding with Clay
DESCRIPTION:When: Fridays 11:00 am – 1:00 pm \nDates: Friday: 3/13\, 3/20\, 3/27\, 4/10\, 4/17\, 4/24 MAKE UP: 5/1 (skip Good Friday\, 4/3) \nPlease Note: All classes and workshops are for Military Connected Individuals who are 18 years or older. This particular class is for military-connected women over 18 years or older. \nCreate a one-of-a-kind collection of handbuilt ceramic art pieces! Projects include sculptural and functional items–examples of items we’ll make include a mug with a handle\, a textured wall pocket hanging decoration\, origami-inspired trinket dishes\, and an owl-shaped votive luminary (see photos). These projects incorporate all the fundamental skills of handbuilding with clay: roll slabs\, securely join clay components\, add textures\, pinching\, coil building\, and painting colorful underglazes onto your own pieces!Works will be fired off-site after the class is finished and will be available for pickup from the Joel Fund offices after class is over. No experience is necessary; your instructor will meet you where you are and provide the support you need to enjoy the creative process–the studio is fully accessible\, participants will be able to stand or sit as desired\, and accommodations are always available for any specific needs. Working with this medium provides a unique opportunity for sensory engagement and creative development–come connect to yourself and other makers as you find your way with clay! \nPlease note\, this class is for Women Only. \nWe offer scholarships for those who cannot afford the registration fee. SUMMARY:PineCone Old Time Jam at Riparian
DESCRIPTION:Held on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 7-9 pm at the Riparian Provision Company (1408 South Saunders Street\, Raleigh). This is an up to speed\, gather in a circle kind of jam. It’s led by great players who work to make sure there’s space for everyone in the tunes. \n \nThe leader picks a key (D\, A and G are popular) and calls tunes in that key until it feels right to pick a new key and retune. The fiddlers traditionally call the tunes\, but not always the jam leader. If you’re playing fiddle you should expect to be asked\, “Hey\, you got a good D tune?” While “no” is an acceptable answer\, it’s good to have a tune in each key that you’d feel comfortable calling and kicking off. \n \nWhether you’re a first-time jammer or a veteran\, you’re welcome to learn the tunes and play along\, or just listen and observe! However\, please note that this is not a “learning” or “slow” jam. Please remember – every jam is different! This jam tends to draw a good crowd\, and it is open to musicians of all skill levels. Please help us make sure that newer players feel welcome. Also\, big\, mixed level jams can be challenging. In this technique/creative dance class\, we will do so in a healthy\, FUN way. DESCRIPTION:Wanna be first to hear who’s playing the 2026 Raleigh Wide Open Music Festival? Come to our free Lineup Announcement live event on May 12\, part of our weekly Beer and Banjos concert at Bowstring Pizza and Brewyard in Raleigh. From 6:30-9 p.m.\, you’ll hear music from the Beer and Banjos All-Stars and guest band the Carolina Junebugs\, and we’ve got some extra fun in store as we unveil the festival lineup. \nIt’ll also be the first opportunity to buy our brand-new 2026 festival merch — yes\, our beloved banjo-hoisting squirrel will be prominently featured! \nBeer and Banjos is a free\, family-friendly evening of roots music every Tuesday at Raleigh’s Bowstring Pizza and Brewyard. Hosted by the mighty local musicians known collectively as the Beer and Banjos Allstars\, these weekly concerts feature guest musicians and take place on Bowstring’s spacious patio when the weather allows\, or inside by the bar when rain\, heat\, or cold threaten the vibe. \nTips for the musicians are gratefully accepted (look for a helper walking around with a bucket for cash and QR codes for online tips)\, and don’t forget to check out the merch table. Whitaker Mill Rd. Turn right into the parking lot of the StorageMax and look for a kiosk to pay. \nFREE PARKING: Turn right out of the Bowstring parking lot and quickly turn left at the light onto E. Whitaker Mill Rd. Turn left into the parking lot of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. It’s about a 5-10 minute walk back to Bowstring from there.
