SUMMARY:Witch
DESCRIPTION:A charming devil arrives in the quiet village of Edmonton to bargain for the souls of its residents in exchange for their darkest wishes. Elizabeth should be his easiest target\, having been labeled a “witch” and cast out by the town\, but her soul is not so readily bought. An inventive retelling of a Jacobean drama\, this sharp\, subversive fable debates how much our souls are worth when hope is hard to come by. \nBy Jen Silverman \nDirected by Jeri Lynn Schulke \n“Witch” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French\, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com

SUMMARY:PineCone Old Time Jam at Riparian
DESCRIPTION:Held on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 7-9 pm at the Riparian Provision Company (1408 South Saunders Street\, Raleigh). This is an up to speed\, gather in a circle kind of jam. It’s led by great players who work to make sure there’s space for everyone in the tunes. \nThe leader picks a key (D\, A and G are popular) and calls tunes in that key until it feels right to pick a new key and retune. The fiddlers traditionally call the tunes\, but not always the jam leader. If you’re playing fiddle you should expect to be asked\, “Hey\, you got a good D tune?” While “no” is an acceptable answer\, it’s good to have a tune in each key that you’d feel comfortable calling and kicking off. \n \nWhether you’re a first-time jammer or a veteran\, you’re welcome to learn the tunes and play along\, or just listen and observe! However\, please note that this is not a “learning” or “slow” jam. Please remember – every jam is different! This jam tends to draw a good crowd\, and it is open to musicians of all skill levels. Please help us make sure that newer players feel welcome. Also\, big\, mixed level jams can be challenging. Patience and kindness are appreciated! \nRecent tunes include: \nFly Around (D) \nSoldier’s Joy (D) \nWhiskey Before Breakfast (D) \nYellow Rose of Texas (D) \nBooth (A) \nJohn Brown’s Dream (A) \nKitchen Girl (A) \nJune Apple (A) \nNail That Catfish to the Tree (G) \nBig Scotia (G) \nElk River Blues (G) \nJenny Run Away in the Mud in the Night (G)

SUMMARY:Beer and Banjos: Kyle Caudle
DESCRIPTION:Beer and Banjos is a free\, family-friendly evening of roots music every Tuesday at Raleigh’s Bowstring Pizza and Brewyard. Hosted by the mighty local musicians known collectively as the Beer and Banjos Allstars\, these weekly concerts feature guest musicians and take place on Bowstring’s spacious patio when the weather allows\, or inside by the bar when rain\, heat\, or cold threaten the vibe. \nTips for the musicians are gratefully accepted (look for a helper walking around with a bucket for cash and QR codes for online tips)\, and don’t forget to check out the merch table. Bowstring serves tasty pizza and other food as well as cold beer and other beverages. \nThis week’s guest musician is Kyle Caudle. Like his home at the edge of Appalachia\, Caudle’s music finds itself at the edge of rolling countrysides and bustling city streets. It’s that liminal space that Caudle explores in his songs. Learn more about Caudle and his music here.

SUMMARY:One Day Clay Workshop: Origami Trinket Tray
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Emily Malpass \nDate: Friday\, July 18 \nWhen: 11 am – 1 pm \nThis one-time workshop will provide you with the materials and techniques needed to create a small origami-style trinket tray for your jewelry\, keys\, or other small items\, or to give as a special gift to someone you love. We will roll our own slabs of clay\, incorporate textures on their surfaces\, and shape the form by hand to hand-build your origami trinket tray. \nPLEASE NOTE: your piece will not be finished/take-home ready on the day of class–it must dry and then be kiln-fired and glazed off-site. You’ll choose from a selection of food-safe glazes\, and our friends at Klaystation in Raleigh will fire and glaze your piece–you’ll be contacted to come pick up your completed mug from TJF within one month of class. \nNo experience is needed and all levels and abilities are welcome! Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty\, and please let us know if you need any accommodations (standing workspace\, additional lighting\, etc.). \nWe offer scholarships for those who cannot afford the registration fee. Email the Operation ART Program Manager at isabella@thejoelfund.org to receive the scholarship promo code with your name and email address.
