SUMMARY:OdysseyStage Presents: Shinsei (rebirth)\, by Judy M. Dove
DESCRIPTION:Shinsei is a haunting drama where ghosts of the past collide with myths and memories. Amid the echoes of war and the weight of tradition\, it weaves a poignant tale of mothers and daughters\, pain\, joy\, and the possibility of rebirth. Lose yourself in a world where the line between life and death vanishes. \nThe impressive cast includes Stephanie Yu in the role of TSUBAME\, multi-faceted Katie Bolanos as both SORA and JAPANESE YŪREI\, and Olivia Silber Ashley as JEANNIE. Other distinguished local talents and puppeteers include Liam Yates\, Joy Bryant\, Dylan Bailey\, and Deb Teitelbaum. \nPlaywright Judy M. Dove shares\, “Shinsei is a very personal lullaby to my mom. My mother was Japanese\, born in Tokyo\, Japan\, and was a survivor of the Great Tokyo Air Raid in 1945\, so I grew up with firsthand\, on-the-ground accounts of the event.” Reflecting on the power of storytelling\, pain and healing\, Dove adds\, “Writing is the only way I know how to manipulate time.” \nBe among the first to witness this world premiere at the iconic Burning Coal Theatre in downtown Raleigh\, which will run from Thursday\, October 31st\, to Sunday\, November 10th\, 2024. 224 Polk St\, Raleigh\, NC 27604

SUMMARY:Triangle Wind Ensemble presents Masquerade
DESCRIPTION:Masquerade: a pretense… a disguise… a transformation?\nOpening with Nicole Piunno’s Bright Shadow Fanfare–this program is both fiery and mysterious\, sentimental and quixotic. Gustav Holst’s Hammersmith anchors this classic wind-band work in vivid memories of a colorful British town on the Thames river while Luis Serrano Alarcon’s Invocación transforms an earlier piano work by Isaac Albéniz into a fiery Latin ritual dance. The concert suite Deliverance by Etienne Crausaz is a cinematic combination of the opposite qualities of lightheartedness and grandiosity. \nProgram Highlights:\nBright Shadow Fanfare — Nicole Piunno\nMasquerade — Anna Clyne\nHammersmith — Gustav Holst\nWaltz from Masquerade — Aram Khachaturian\nSong for My Children — Andrew Boysen Jr.\nDeliverance — Etienne Crausaz\nInvocación — Luis Serano Alarcón
