DESCRIPTION:Ashe School of Music is excited to present our inaugural event for the ASM Music and Arts Series. We will invite various musicians\, visual artists\, and other members of the arts community to share their talents with us throughout the year. This music and arts series is presented in cooperation with the Holly Springs Arts Council. \nOur first concert is this Sunday evening\, February 23rd\, anticipated to be one hour in length. Jean Park\, pianist\, will conduct a masterclass at 6:00pm followed by a “mini” recital at 6:30pm. \nWe hope you will join us for this event\, free of charge and open to the public. The concert will be held at our main studio downtown\, 201 W Center St in Holly Springs. It is kid friendly! \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Learn how to naturally dye fabrics to transform a simple bag into accessory art. Make a personalized tote bag using a pocket face made from naturally dyed fabrics. Your unique textile collage pocket will bear artwork made from stitch meditations from your own hand as you learn from the instructor\, Grace McFetters Caldwell\, how to use specialized stitches to create a composition then apply to the tote bag as a pocket. No one in the world will have a matching tote bag like yours\, and you’ll be learning skills like dyeing with natural materials like plants and bugs and hand stitching techniques that can be used every day to embellish\, mend\, and create. \nStudents will participate in the Spring Student Showcase in May 2025 to showcase their work. \nSpecific dates: 1/13\, 1/27\, 2/3\, 2/10\, 2/24\, 3/3 (make up date 3/10) \nSKIP 1/20 (MLK Day) and 2/17 (Presidents Day) \nA make up date will be used if a class is canceled due to the instructor’s illness\, inclement weather\, or an emergency. In this interactive\, mostly nonverbal story\, audiences meet the free spirit Circle\, followed by highly structured Square. These two characters have a hard time figuring out how to play together because they are so different. Throughout the play\, Circle and Square discover each other’s unique gifts and how they can be combined to have even more fun together than apart. \nOriginally devised by Rhonda Bell\, JaneMarie Erikson\, Elizabeth Ingram\, Jeremy Kisling\, Meredyth Pederson Cooper for Lexington Children’s Theatre. SUMMARY:United Strings of Color Music Discovery in the Library
DESCRIPTION:The United Strings of Color Intermediate Group will introduce you to the string family of instruments and celebrate the 125th anniversary of “Lift Every Voice and Sing”. In keeping with our mission\, the Music Discovery Concert by United Strings of Color Intermediate Group will showcase two Black composers\, Ignatius Sancho and Joseph Bologne\, Chevalier de St. Georges. The musicians will also demonstrate members of the string family: the violin\, viola and cello\, through solos on those instruments with ensemble accompaniment. Then USCI will give a reading of Kelly Starling Lyons’ book\, “Sing A Song\, How Lift Every Voice and Sing Inspired Generations” with narration by Nygel Harris\, and singing by Aubrey\, a Martin Middle 8th grader. A chance to try out an instrument in our Instrument Zoo will follow.

DESCRIPTION:Founded in October 2017\, Big Red Dance Project (BRDP) is a collective of adults who expand the notion of who can dance in our current society. \nGrounded in the classical modern dance traditions of founder and artistic director Gerri Houlihan\, BRDP challenges the stereotypes that modern dancers must be young\, thin\, and competitive. DESCRIPTION:Burning Coal Theatre Company is proud to announce its production of Being Chaka\, created by TÉA Artistry\, written by Tara Amber\, Chuk Obasi\, and Nalini Sharma\, directed by Chuk Obasi and Vieve Radha Price. Being Chaka will run March 13th-30th\, 2025\, at the Murphey School\, located at 224 Polk Street\, Raleigh\, NC 27604. Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2 pm. All tickets are $30\, or $25 for seniors (65+) or $20 (students\, teachers\, active military). People 18 and under can get a ticket to any performance for $5. Friday\, March 14th is College night: $5 dollar admission for college students. Sunday\, March 16th at 2 pm is ‘Pay What You Can’ day. Chaka is haunted\, literally and metaphorically\, by the ghosts of generational trauma and systemic racism. Over the course of the play\, Chaka and his friends Kunzang\, Ethan and Maddy must learn to grapple with their histories\, families and cultures– or else let the past consume them.
