DESCRIPTION:As part of the “Unspoken” art exhibition\, Drinking Gourd Gallery\, Southeast Regional Library and the Wake County Public Libraries invite you to join us for a community-centered experience that shines a light on men’s mental health through the lens of art and live performance. Written by poet\, author\, and playwright Michael Garcia\, “Stuff Inside My Head” is a groundbreaking play that combines poetry and social commentary to address and confront the stigmas that continue to plague men of color and their mental health. The play revolves around Anthony Reynolds\, an emotionally fragile poet\, who contends with depression\, feelings of failure and family tragedy. In this excerpt reading of ACT I from the play\, Anthony invites two of his childhood friends to his Harlem apartment to help him prepare for an open mic event\, but things take a wrong turn when a letter bearing bad news opens old wounds. The accusations and revelations that follow stoke resentment and anger amongst the friends and reveal long-kept secrets that threaten to destroy lives. Cast: Kevin “Kaze” Thomas as Anthony Reynolds\, Khalid Greenaway as Caesar Rodriguez\, and Ajani Kambón as DeAndre Johnson. Performance will include a post-show Q&A (question and answer) session with the playwright\, cast members\, and a mental health professional.

Drew also developed the new musical Almost Famous at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego\,later opening the musical on Broadway in the fall of 2022 . DESCRIPTION:Held on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 7-9 pm at the Riparian Provision Company (1408 South Saunders Street\, Raleigh). This is an up to speed\, gather in a circle kind of jam. It’s led by great players who work to make sure there’s space for everyone in the tunes. \nThe leader picks a key (D\, A and G are popular) and calls tunes in that key until it feels right to pick a new key and retune. The fiddlers traditionally call the tunes\, but not always the jam leader. If you’re playing fiddle you should expect to be asked\, “Hey\, you got a good D tune?” While “no” is an acceptable answer\, it’s good to have a tune in each key that you’d feel comfortable calling and kicking off. \n \nWhether you’re a first-time jammer or a veteran\, you’re welcome to learn the tunes and play along\, or just listen and observe! However\, please note that this is not a “learning” or “slow” jam. Please remember – every jam is different! This jam tends to draw a good crowd\, and it is open to musicians of all skill levels. Please help us make sure that newer players feel welcome. Also\, big\, mixed level jams can be challenging.
