SUMMARY:Women's Only Fiber Arts: Weaving a Waterfall
DESCRIPTION:Learn to weave a landscape tapestry using a circle loom! These looms are a one-time use because they make a beautiful frame for your tapestry. This workshop will teach you to warp a circle loom using a non-circular set-up to weave an image of a landscape featuring a waterfall that will fall from the frame. Students will learn to design “outside the frame” along with how to warp a simple tapestry frame loom then weave using a variety of stitches and yarns to create texture and visual interest. Once your masterpiece is finished\, the tapestry will be ready to hang on the wall for all to admire your mastery of weaving! \nDates: 4/14\, 4/21\, 4/28\, 5/5\, 5/12 \nTime: Mondays 1-4 pm \nA make up date will be used if a class is canceled due to the instructor’s illness\, inclement weather\, or an emergency. If you are running late to class or know you will miss a class\, please contact the instructor directly or let the Operation ART Program Manager know at isabella@thejoelfund.org or 919 200 0886 or the Operation ART Program Assistant at stephanie@thejoelfund.org or 919-213-0054. \nWe offer scholarships for those who cannot afford the registration fee. SUMMARY:PineCone Beginners’ Bluegrass Jam
DESCRIPTION:This jam is open to all musicians\, not only beginners! It is a learning jam\, though\, to help those who are still learning the basics of bluegrass music and playing with other musicians. It is open to participants of all ages and abilities. This is a great opportunity for participants to learn basic jam etiquette before jumping into a traditional jam. We’ll spend the first hour playing together in a single large group\, stopping frequently to discuss the songs. The second hour\, we like to break off into two smaller groups and put our new jam skills into practice! \nFacilitator Jef Walter is a local musician who plays with Hank Smith & the Beer & Banjos All-Stars (every Tuesday at The Raleigh Times Bar) and other groups; he also mentors The Loblollies youth bluegrass band.
