Your unique textile collage pocket will bear artwork made from stitch meditations from your own hand as you learn from the instructor\, Grace McFetters Caldwell\, how to use specialized stitches to create a composition then apply to the tote bag as a pocket. SUMMARY:Conversations Between Four Black Abolitionist Music-Makers
DESCRIPTION:United Strings of Color is presenting an immersive experience of Black history using music\, theatre\, and mixed media arts to educate about the lives\, countries\, times\, systemic laws\, and iconic contributions of the four Black abolitionists: Ignatius Sancho\, Joseph Bologne “Chevalier”\, Solomon Northrup and Frederick Douglass. Pre-show interactive immersive activities will take place in the lobby at the showtime listed\, with the theatrical production beginning one hour later. Throughout the production\, USC groups will play music either composed by the historical figures themselves\, associated with them in historical documentation\, or of the era in which they lived. Following the formal presentation\, the audience will be invited to converse with our musical Black abolitionists and engage further in the discoveries the production uncovers.

Vivid imagery and moments of yearning\, love\, joy\, and peace are revealed through an individual’s relationship to nature and in love. With Allen Bailey on piano and Bo Newsome on oboe. \nThe second half of the concert consists of exquisite choral favorites that take your breath away\, including motets by Bruckner and Rheinberger\, Tichelli’sThere Will Be Rest\, Kirchner’s arrangement of Bright Morning Stars\, Harris’ I am Loved\, and more. \nThe CSC Chamber Choir is an advanced ensemble consisting of members of the CSC Symphonic Choir and additional local singers\, including many public-school music teachers.

DESCRIPTION:Faculty and students of the North Carolina Chamber Music Institute invite the public to join a celebration of the birthday of Martin Luther King\, Jr. when they perform music of black composers at a free concert. The concert will be held Monday\, January 20\, at 7:30 pm at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church\, 2209 Fairview Rd\, Raleigh\, NC 27608. \nDr. Timothy Holley\, cellist and associate professor of music at NC Central University\, is curating the program which will include works by composers Timmothy Baker\, Jessie Montgomery\, Leslie Adams\, and more! The concert will also feature NC native composer and singer James Dargan\, performing songs based on poems by Langston Hughes. \nImmediately prior to the concert (6:00pm)\, NCCMI will present\, “Conversation with the Composer” with Mr. Dargan! Anyone interested in how someone becomes a composer should plan to attend this interactive event. \nWhile there is no charge for admission\, there is a suggested donation of $15.
