A 2022 inductee into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame\, Rowan has spent over five decades shaping the sound and spirit of American roots music — from bluegrass and folk to rock\, country\, and beyond. \nInducted into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame in 2022\, Rowan was one of Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys in the 1960s. Together\, Rowan and the father of bluegrass wrote the classic “Walls of Time.” He’s picked and sung plenty of bluegrass since then\, but that’s only part of his music story. Rowan is also beloved by Grateful Dead fans for his work in Old & In the Way with Jerry Garcia\, David Grisman\, and Vassar Clements. \nHe’s won a Grammy and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association\, and he’s played with artists across genres and generations\, including Emmylou Harris\, Tony Rice\, Billy Strings\, Molly Tuttle\, Sam Bush\, and Sam Grisman. But at this Down Home Concert\, we get him all to ourselves. Performing solo\, Rowan will share songs and stories from across his career\, always with the peaceful\, loving charm that’s made him a beloved figure for decades. \nBONUS BLUEGRASS: Members of the Carolina Bluegrass Band will perform informally in the lobby before this show!

SUMMARY:Symphonies of Paris
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy an afternoon of late Classical symphonic works composed in Paris and the North American premiere of Sergii Leontiev’s Little Bachiana\, written for Baroque Orchestra. \nSunday\, March 15th\, 4 PM\nHayes Barton United Methodist Church\n2209 Fairview Rd\, Raleigh\, NC \nThe musical scene in Paris was unlike anywhere else in Europe. The draw of talent to the Paris Conservatory also fostered musical experimentation\, exploration\, and a stretching of musical idioms. Haydn wrote his Symphony No. 87 only 10 years apart from Reicha’s first Symphony in E-flat\, but they are tonally so very different. \nWinners of the third annual High School Baroque Artist Residency Competition will also perform with the Raleigh Camerata on Haydn’s Symphony No. 87 in A major. Hear the delightful sounds of classical flutes\, oboes\, bassoons\, and horns with a full string orchestra.

What started as friends gathering to pick tunes led to gigs being booked and original songs taking their place in the modern bluegrass canon. And fans gladly came along for the ride. \nThe band has become one of the most decorated and award-winning acts in bluegrass\, including the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) honors for Entertainer of the Year\, Album of the Year\, Song of the Year\, and many more. \nBalsam Range has released 14 albums\, with several number one singles on the bluegrass charts. But what remains most important to the band is something that goes back to those kitchen-jam origins: genuinely connecting with an audience through the sacred\, ancient act of live performance.
