SUMMARY:Women's Only Handbuilding with Clay
DESCRIPTION:When: Fridays 11:00 am – 1:00 pm \nDates: Friday: 3/13\, 3/20\, 3/27\, 4/10\, 4/17\, 4/24 MAKE UP: 5/1 (skip Good Friday\, 4/3) \nPlease Note: All classes and workshops are for Military Connected Individuals who are 18 years or older. This particular class is for military-connected women over 18 years or older. \nCreate a one-of-a-kind collection of handbuilt ceramic art pieces! Projects include sculptural and functional items–examples of items we’ll make include a mug with a handle\, a textured wall pocket hanging decoration\, origami-inspired trinket dishes\, and an owl-shaped votive luminary (see photos). These projects incorporate all the fundamental skills of handbuilding with clay: roll slabs\, securely join clay components\, add textures\, pinching\, coil building\, and painting colorful underglazes onto your own pieces!Works will be fired off-site after the class is finished and will be available for pickup from the Joel Fund offices after class is over. No experience is necessary; your instructor will meet you where you are and provide the support you need to enjoy the creative process–the studio is fully accessible\, participants will be able to stand or sit as desired\, and accommodations are always available for any specific needs. Working with this medium provides a unique opportunity for sensory engagement and creative development–come connect to yourself and other makers as you find your way with clay! \nPlease note\, this class is for Women Only. \nWe offer scholarships for those who cannot afford the registration fee. SUMMARY:Premier of JazzTales Continued by Trinity Bursey and Gregg Gelb
DESCRIPTION:On May 8\, 2026 at 7 PM join us for the Premier performance of “Lamar the Super Guitar\,” the second installment of the JazzTales series by Trinity Bursey and Gregg Gelb. “Lamar the Super Guitar\,” is a children’s book by Trinity Bursey\, which is illustrated by John Schull and accompanied by a new jazz score by Gregg Gelb and performed live by the Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra.  This project is supported by the 2025-26 South Arts Jazz Road Creative Residency and we have support also from the United Arts Council and the town of Knightdale. The story “Lamar the Super Guitar\,” is about kindness. What makes a hero? Lamar thinks it’s daring feats but he will he discover that kindness\, courage\, and showing up are what truly matters this heartwarming\, humorous story which shows young readers how everyday acts of kindness can make a big difference. JazzTales is an interactive storytelling experience that brings books live jazz\, music\, and animation to life\, helping students collaborate and embrace kindness\, and fall in love with stories and music. DESCRIPTION:Songs about dancing\, as well as songs set in a specific dance rhythm or style\, stretch throughout music history and across all cultures and nationalities. This program will sample a wide variety of music from the Renaissance to contemporary\, including pop music\, musical theatre\, and world music. You’ll hear pieces by Schubert\, Brahms\, Britten\, Copland\, Van Morrison\, and Abba\, as well as music from “Wicked”.
