SUMMARY:DRACULA\, A FEMINIST REVENGE\, FANTASY\, REALLY
DESCRIPTION:The patriarchy bites. \nTerrifying and riotous\, this imaginative\, gender-bending feminist revenge fantasy is like no Dracula you’ve ever experienced. This fresh take on the classic Victorian tale delves into the nature of modern predators. Hamill’s signature style and postmodern flair have us battling complicit\, complacent\, and controlling villains to drive a stake through the heart of toxic masculinity.

SUMMARY:Patrizia Ferreira - Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:Join Patrizia for a discussion of her solo exhibition\, “Sancred Sanctuaries” on view at Artspace until November 30.\n\n\nJoin fiber artist Patrizia Ferreira for a conversation on nature\, humanity\, migration\, and the creative process as she discusses her solo exhibition\, Sancred Sanctuaries on view at Artspace until November 30. \nArtist Statement \n“Sacred Sanctuaries invites viewers to reflect on the many meanings of shelter — not only as a space that protects us from danger\, whether animal or human\, but also as something inherently fragile and often temporary. The word sanctuary also evokes current issues around immigration and the increasing threats to places of refuge. \nThis work encourages us to rethink what truly defines a refuge. Is it a house? Or could it be a forest\, a beach\, a makeshift structure\, or even a blanket? No matter where we are in the world\, we instinctively shape our environment to create a space of protection. \nSacred Sanctuaries explores this liminal space — the threshold between us and the world — and what it means to seek safety\, belonging\, and peace.” \n \nAbout Patrizia Ferreira \nPatrizia Ferreira’s work laboriously incorporates the debris of her surroundings namely\, textiles and plastic\, to create poetic pieces that speak of our society of over consumption\, and the state of our environment. By giving life to otherwise inanimate materials\, making something beautiful out of the discarded she invites the viewer to reflect upon the repercussions our actions cause on our planet. A native of Uruguay\, being an immigrant and being a woman instruments in great part her work. Pieces appear fragmented\, torn\, frayed\, depicting the obvious\, inevitable passage of time. A piece made of many disconnected parts. An analogy for how she feels. Made of many broken\, fragmented pieces – yet\, strongly rooted\, undeniably human. \nPatrizia received a bachelor’s degree in textile design from the Institute of Industrial Design in Montevideo\, Uruguay and a Master of Science degree in textile design for prints from Philadelphia University (currently Thomas Jefferson University). She is the recipient of the 2024 Emerging Artist in Residence at Artspace\, Raleigh\, NC. She is an artist and educator living in Raleigh\, NC. \n \nAbout Artspace \nArtspace is a non-profit visual arts center located in Downtown Raleigh. SUMMARY:Witch
DESCRIPTION:A charming devil arrives in the quiet village of Edmonton to bargain for the souls of its residents in exchange for their darkest wishes. Elizabeth should be his easiest target\, having been labeled a “witch” and cast out by the town\, but her soul is not so readily bought. As the devil returns to convince her – and then returns again – unexpected passions flare\, alliances are formed\, and the village is forever changed. An inventive retelling of a Jacobean drama\, this sharp\, subversive fable debates how much our souls are worth when hope is hard to come by. \nBy Jen Silverman \nDirected by Jeri Lynn Schulke \n“Witch” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French\, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com
