SUMMARY:Street Requiem
DESCRIPTION:The Chorale and Youth Choir combine forces to sing “Street Requiem”\, a work written by Australian composer Kathleen McGuire in collaboration with Andy Payne and Jonathon Welch\, in order to bring attention to those who suffer from housing insecurity and to honor those who have died on the streets. The composers set English\, African\, and Persian texts in multiple musical styles\, including contemporary\, gospel\, and indigenous. This moving and uplifting work invites both performers and listeners to contemplate and address this significant social issue together as a community.

SUMMARY:Big Red Dance Project 2025 Season
DESCRIPTION:Founded in October 2017\, Big Red Dance Project (BRDP) is a collective of adults who expand the notion of who can dance in our current society. \nGrounded in the classical modern dance traditions of founder and artistic director Gerri Houlihan\, BRDP challenges the stereotypes that modern dancers must be young\, thin\, and competitive. With dancers ranging in age from 35–70+\, the group includes a community of movers who are both experienced and new to performance\, as well as a visual artist\, a dance filmmaker\, dance educators\, and medical personnel. \nbigreddanceproject.org \nBig Red Dance Project presents its annual season at the Durham Arts Council\, May 2-4. Performances will feature two new works and repertoire\, including a premiere co-choreographed with Kristin O’Neal (former Houlihan and Dancers company member) that plays with memory and nostalgia through the music of the 1920s. \nDirection: Gerri Houlihan\nChoreography: Gerri Houlihan in collaboration with the dancers\nGuest Collaborator: Kristin O’Neal \nCompany\nAntonia Beh\nRebecca Bliss\nMadeline Burgess\nAndrea Didisheim\nKaity Granda\nSusan Hartley\nSue Hill\nDavida Reid\nJennifer Scully-Thurston\nBeth Seaton\nBeth Starosta-Desmond\nApril Strickland \nGuest Artists\nCaitlin Dutton-Reaver\nJoshua Dutton-Reaver \nRehearsal Director\nAllie Pfeffer \nLocation\nDurham Arts Council\, 27701\nSearch events \nPhoto by Alexa Velez
