SUMMARY:Arts on the Block
DESCRIPTION:Artspace’s inaugural block party –  celebrating the power of community and visual art!\n\n\nArts on the Block is a new block party for all ages hosted by Artspace celebrating the power of community and visual art. Historic City Market and Davie Street will come alive with local DJs\, hands-on artist-led demonstrations\, art exhibitions\, make + take activities\, and a special installation. Shop and eat local with 30 artisan vendors\, City Market retail stores and restaurants\, and guest food trucks while exploring visual art. \nCommunity members are invited to attend Arts on the Block’s sensory friendly hour from 11:00am-12:00pm with no amplified sound and smaller crowds. Funds raised during Arts on the Block will support Artspace’s mission to provide accessible art exhibitions\, affordable studio spaces\, career-building artist residencies\, low and no-cost art education programs\, and community events. \n \nArts on the Block Experiences: \nCreativity Block – Participate in hands on artist-led demos\, enjoy make + take activities for creatives of all ages and engage with our art & cultural partners. \nSocial Block – Dance to beats by local DJs\, meet our community partners and play lawn games\, enjoy pop-up performances brought to you by TheGifted Arts\, and pose with our special textile installation. \nFood Truck Block – Eat local with guest food trucks and vendors and surrounding City Market restaurants. Purchase a ceramic cup from the Bottoms Up juried cup show or from our featured ceramic artist\, Liz Kelly. SUMMARY:United Strings of Color at Youth Music Day
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Children’s Day Celebration on Moore Square\, member groups of the Triangle Music Education Consortium will play\, including United Strings of Color performing from 4 – 4:30. We will feature works by composers of color\, including Ignatius Sancho\, Joseph Bologne Chevalier de St. Georges and Black Violin – their Stereotypes. In recognition of the sponsorship by the Mexican Consulate we will also play Bésame Mucho\, a bolero song written in 1932 by Mexican songwriter Consuelo Velázquez. \nOther performers from the Triangle Music Educator Consortium include Raleigh Music Collective\, Community Music School\, North Carolina Chamber Music Institute\, Wake Forest Community Youth Orchestra and Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble.

SUMMARY:Burning Coal Theatre Presents Merrily We Roll Along
DESCRIPTION:Merrily We Roll Along\, written by Stephen Sondheim and George Furth\, is told in reverse chronological order and depicts the story of a successful and wealthy composer by the name of Franklin Shepherd\, as well as his two old friends (Mary and Charley)\, and their changing relationships and lives over the course of twenty years. It raises the question of what we are willing to sacrifice for money and notoriety and emphasizes the importance of family and friendship.
