In this residency program, theatre professionals lead students through a variety of theatre-based exercises in order to SPARK the dialogue on important issues such as substance misuse, peer pressure, and healthy relationships. Professional theatre Teaching Artists team up with classroom teachers in order to destigmatize these topics, dispel common misconceptions, and ultimately, allow students to create one-of-a-kind artistic performances that seek to promote awareness and action. With programs appropriate for both middle school and high school students, SPARK is the perfect resource for educators who prioritize Social Emotional Learning objectives within arts curriculum. Students who participate in SPARK not only benefit from receiving feedback from theatre professionals on their performance technique, but also find empowerment through knowledge on these topics and utilizing their own creative voice. The project offers flexible commitment: The standard SPARK model is delivered as a full 10-session residency that culminates in a final sharing of the work, but custom schedules can be made for schools with less than 10 days to devote to this program.
Both in-person and virtual (live) options are available for this program.
