Writer Howard Craft will guide students from Mt. Vernon Middle School in a week-long Artists in the Schools program entitled “Writing My Life.” Craft will guide sixth and seventh graders in December and eighth graders in April through five-day creative writing workshops. Students will build writing skills by describing personal experiences and events using their senses. Craft will follow the NC State Curriculum Guidelines for building writing skills to teach students how to organize paragraphs and incorporate content and conventions in their writing. At the end of the program, students will perform their works to an audience of peers.
Craft is a published poet and an award-winning playwright who has worked with the United Arts Council Artists in the School program since 2000.
