United Arts is featuring the work of Deborah Younglao at the Wake County Commissioners’ Offices through September 23, 2009.

Younglao is a self-taught artist who uses silk to portray her love of nature. Flowers, birds and undersea creatures come to life on shimmering silk painted with vibrant fabric dyes. A native Trinidad, Deborah resides in Cary. Painting tropical themes is one way of keeping in touch with her Caribbean roots. After earning degrees in Biology and Oceanography, her creative side led her to express her fascination with nature in an artistic rather than scientific manner. She was introduced to dye-painting on silk in 1997, and thus started a love affair that has grown into a full-time calling.
