The City of Raleigh Arts Commission and the United Arts Council of Raleigh & Wake County invite all City and County employees and their immediate family members to enter the area's fourth annual National Arts Program® Exhibition, December 1, 2006, through January 4, 2007. The deadline for employees to submit intent to participate is November 17.
This art exhibit, in collaboration with The National Arts Program® Foundation, Inc., of Malvern, Pennsylvania, showcases the diverse and artistic talents of municipal employees of Raleigh and Wake County and their families. Recognized artists and arts professional will jury all works and cash prizes will be awarded in the exhibition's five artistic classifications: amateur, intermediate, advanced, youth ages 12-17 and youth under 12 years.
In the adult classifications, winners will receive $350 for first place, $250 for second place and $150 for third place. In the youth classifications, $100 will go to first place winners, $75 to second-place and $50 to third-place winners.
The National Arts Program® was conceived by Leonard E. B. Andrews, art collector, publisher, business executive and journalist, "for the encouragement and development of artistic expression." It began as a pilot project in 1985 and now reaches over 150 cities in the U.S.
The Raleigh and Wake County employee and family artwork will be displayed in the Avery Upchurch Government Complex, 222 W. Hargett Street, from December 1, 2006, to January 4, 2007.
Each individual artist may submit up to two works. As many works as possible will be displayed, although space is limited. All exhibits must be labeled with the artist's name and, where appropriate, department affiliation.
Intent to enter forms are available from (name of Wake County coordinator) and the City of Raleigh Arts Commission office and must be returned to the Arts Commission office by November 17.
Exhibitor release forms and artwork must be brought to second floor lobby of the Avery Upchurch Government Complex, 222 W. Hargett St., from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on November 27.
The United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County will host a reception for the show Friday, December 1, 5:00 p.m., for City and County employees and their families in conjunction with the Raleigh's First Friday Gallery Walk. Children and grandchildren are welcome for a little holiday fun and "arts education."
A registration form (please see attached) must be completed by each artist who plans to submit an entry and returned to Robin Capps with Wake County or the City of Raleigh Arts Commission office by November 17. These forms are available on-line at: www.raleighnc.gov/arts or www.unitedarts.org.
An "Exhibitor's Release Form" must be completed for each work submitted.
Two-dimensional artwork (painting, poetry, drawings and photographs) must be framed. Artwork on paper must be protected under glass or Plexiglas. Any work framed in wood must have screw eyes inserted in the top right and left corners so that wire may be attached for hanging. Any work framed in metal must have wire clips in the top right and left corners to attach wire for hanging.
Fiber works (weaving, stitchery and needlepoint) measuring over 18 square inches must be made ready to hang by two wires before submission. Accepted works that are less than 18 square inches will be placed in the wall case.
Three-dimensional artwork (sculpture, pottery and carvings) must be no larger than 18 inches in height, 12 inches deep and 10 inches wide.
Because there is no space to store work after the exhibition, all work must be removed on Friday, January 5, 2007, between 11 am and 5 pm. The City is not responsible for work left after this time.
All delivery and pickup of work will be the sole responsibility of the artist.
