The United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County presents its annual Cultural Arts Festival on Saturday, August 16 from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Wakefield High School, 2200 Wakefield Pines Dr, in Raleigh, N.C. This festival features professional artists from across the country who will showcase samples of their youth programming. United Arts also offers a Directory of artists from across the country who present educational arts programs designed specifically for young audiences. In addition to youth programming, many of these artists also present performances that would be suitable for adult/all-ages audiences at low to moderate costs. Families are welcome and encouraged to attend! For more information about this event, or to order a Directory ($40 plus $5 shipping), please contact Jamie Katz at 919-839-1498 x233 or by .

Only Artists listed in the Artists Resource Directory are eligible to participate in this Festival, and the application process is closed for 2008-2009. Please contact Jamie Katz if you would like to receive a Directory application in 2009.

Program Overview

  • AIS is a partnership program of United Arts, the Wake County Public School System and PTAs of Wake County public, private and charter schools.
  • AIS is a grant program that supports the placement of professional artists in the classroom, grades K-12, for curriculum-based performances, workshops and residencies.
  • AIS is a national model that has been expanded into neighboring Johnston County through a mentoring relationship with the Johnston County Arts Council.
To support this program, United Arts publishes an Artists Resource Directory detailing the programs offered by more than 150 artist educators. Our annual Cultural Arts Festival provides opportunities for artists to showcase their talents and for school and community representatives to meet and begin booking artists for their schools and communities.

This program annually achieves more than 100,000 contact hours between artists and students in more than 100 public, private and charter schools in Wake County.
