Cultural Arts Representatives are the backbone of the Artists in the Schools program. These individuals, who are parents or teachers at the schools they represent, volunteer to oversee the Artists in the Schools process, beginning with attending an information session in early August, followed soon after by our annual Cultural Arts Booking Fair, where they have the chance to see artists in action, talk with them in person and decide which to invite to their schools.
These volunteers submit an application in September to United Arts to request funding for performances, workshops and residencies at their schools, and they handle the contracts and payments for the programs the
PTA and school have agreed to present to their students in a given school year.
This year’s Cultural Arts Training Sessions will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, with one daytime session and one evening session. The daytime session will be at 10 a.m. at the Cary Senior Center, 120 Maury O’Dell Place, Cary, NC 27513 (located within Bond Park). The evening session will be at 5:45 p.m. at the United Arts Council offices, 110 S. Blount St., Raleigh, NC 27601. There is limited parking along the street that is free after 5 p.m. There is also a pay parking deck next door to our building. 2010-2012 Artists Resource Directories will be distributed at the information sessions. Each school will receive one complimentary Directory.
If you cannot attend the scheduled training on August 4, there will be a make-up session at the United Arts offices on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at 10 a.m. for you to pick up the new Directory and this year’s paperwork.
Attendance at one of the Cultural Arts Training Sessions AND at the Cultural Arts Booking Fair is mandatory and a requirement that must be met to receive grant funds.
