Mission

The United Arts Council of Raleigh & Wake County, Inc., a private nonprofit, builds better communities through support and advocacy of the arts.

Since 1990, United Arts has served as the umbrella fundraising organization for the arts in Wake County. To accomplish this mission, we raise money from businesses, individuals, foundations and government. Funds are distributed back to the community through grants to artists and arts organizations, the Artists in the Schools Program, Community Arts Reach and Creative Explorations teacher training.

Goals

  • Strengthen our community’s economic and cultural well-being by providing a vibrant arts community.
  • Make Wake County the capital of the arts in North Carolina.
  • Increase funding from the public and private sector to support the arts in Wake County.
  • Evaluate and upgrade organizational infrastructure.
  • Position United Arts as the arts leader in Wake County.

History

The beginnings of the organization that would later become known as United Arts can be found in the Raleigh Cultural Center, organized in 1962. That organization later became the Wake County Arts Council. The United Arts Council of Raleigh & Wake County was incorporated in 1990 as a result of the merger of the Wake County Arts Council and the Capital Area Arts Foundation.

Location

United Arts is located on the northeast corner of E. Morgan St. and S. Blount St. and is caddy-corner northwest from Moore Square, just a few doors up from the parking deck and across the street from Marbles Kids Museum.
